Vaňhal, Miroslav ; Gorčíková, Magdaléna (advisor) ; Mazáková Šetinová, Markéta (referee)
This bachelor's thesis focuses on the transmission of parenting styles in families. It is designed as a case study concerning two generations of families from a small town named Říční that is located in the Central Bohemian Region. The aim of this thesis was to describe what influence does a parenting style person was raised in have on the individual's approach towards raising his/her own children. Theoretical part is divided in three chapters that discuss topics of family, upbringing and intergenerational transmission. Each of these sections is dedicated to defining concepts that are further used in the thesis as well as summarizing existing relevant findings. At first, the practical part presents to a reader what kind of methodology was used. Then it is devoted to interpretation of gathered data and answering established research questions. The foundations for this was my qualitative research during which I carried out semi-structured interviews with current parents and grandparents. Output from thematic analysis is description of how respondents from both generations were raised, how they rated their upbringing and what parenting style they could have been raised in. Next, I discuss the influence of parenting styles in intergenerational horizon. Specifically I go over the results of my...
Language shift in the minority languages in Peru: case of community Bora-Huitoto
Satrapová, Sandra ; Vlková Hingarová, Vendula (advisor) ; Mištinová, Anna (referee)
The thesis deals with the current situation of minority languages in Peru, focusing on language shift as a sociolinguistic phenomenon, which is seen as a transition from the use of one language to another language. The first part conceives the topic from a broader perspective and points out certain weaknesses in the subject. Some Peruvian minority languages, ie the native languages of the Amazon region, have not been adequately documented, individual languages have not been given sufficient attention by linguists, and therefore we encounter inconsistent terminology, classifications and varying estimates of the number of the languages. Many of the languages are in danger of extinction because they are replaced in everyday use by Spanish. The thesis analyzes the individual extralinguistic and other factors that have contributed to accelerating the language shift, and on the basis of empiric data obtained during field research in 2013, describes the progress of the shift in selected communities in the languages Bora and Huitoto murui. The third part introduces the sociolinguistic profile of the settlements Pucaurquillo and Ancon Colonia, which were the center of the research. The main part of the thesis analyzes the topic "behaviour towards language", focused on the intergenerational transmission of...
Process of values origin: intergenerational transmission within family
Annotation The thesis The process of value formation: intergenerational transmission in family deals with the transmission of value orientations on the individual level. The aim...
What's in a name in a war
Jurajda, Štěpán ; Kovač, Dejan
We propose a novel empirical strategy for identifying and studying nationalism using name choices. We Örst show that having been given a Örst name that is synonymous with the leader(s) of the fascist Croatian state during World War II predicts volunteering for army service in the 1991-1995 Croatian war of independence and dying during the conáict. Next, we use the universe of Croatian birth certiÖcates and the information about nationalism conveyed by Örst names to contrast the evolution of nationalism and its intergenerational transmission across locations a§ected by extreme war-related experiences. Our evidence suggests that in ex-Yugoslav Croatia, nationalism was on a continuous rise starting in the 1970s, that its rise was curbed in areas where concentration camps were located during WWII, and that nationalist fathers consider the nationalism-transmission trade-o§ between within-family and society-wide transmission channels suggested by Bisin and Verdier (2001).
Intergenerational transmission of social status
Tůmová, Pavla ; Mazouch, Petr (advisor) ; Nývlt, Ondřej (referee)
My diploma thesis is based on data from Survey on income and living conditions 2011 from ad hoc module on intergenerational disadvantages. The study investigates the transmission of social status from one generation to another. The diploma thesis includes descriptive statistics and data analysis. The main goal is to determine the dependency of socio-economic variables on social status transmission. To examine the strength of transmission of social status (education and occupation) logistic regression was used. In the analysis are respondents in the age 30 -- 60 years old, who lived at least with one of their parents. Due to a large number of respondents dataset enables detailed separation to groups by age groups, education level etc. followed by differences comparison between defined groups. Using the wage mechanism data are representative for population structure of Czech Republic.
